This is the fourth Agfachrome slide shot by Bill Zentz at the Western Maryland Train Station in Thurmont on the same day in 1961. Here we see a string of adozen or so Western Maryland Rail Road passenger cars headed West, more than likely to take people on one of the extremely popular fall color excursions up the mountain. The tracks at the right were the Hagerstown & Frederick Railway Trolley siding. As you can see the overhead wires have been removed from the H&F tracks. In the background you can see the water tower at Moore Business Forms on Apples Church Road. I have looked for clues to use to date these slides and in this view there appears to be a 1959 Chevrolet Impala and a 1959 Ford Falcon parked along Boundary Avenue near the Thurmont Feed Mill, the 1961 Impala is newer than both of these vehicles. If anyone knows the actual date please leave a comment. Bill was a life long resident of Thurmont and grew up just down Carroll Street from the WMRR Station. I want to thank Candy Zentz for making this image available.
