This was the Thurmont Dry Cleaning Plant located at 26 Apples Church Road in Thurmont, AMVETS Post 7 now occupies the building and the addition at the rear. This photo shows the Thurmont Dry Cleaners in 1960. Dick and Louise Stride lived in the front apartment upstairs and owned the property and business. There was a smaller apartment at the rear of the second floor and Dick a large workshop and four-car garage at the rear of the property. I think the business opened at this location in 1956 and closed in the mid 1970's.  When they closed it became a church and after a few more years the AMVETS moved in. We have owned the house next door since 1961 and my mom worked at the Dry Cleaners for about ten years. The car in the driveway was one of several Mercury Montereys Louise had over the years, that has her favorite make and model automobile. In the 1960's I remember Buzz Hoover, Paul Claubaugh, Harry(?) Sayler, Jim(?) Little, my mom Margaret, Louise, Dick working there when I was a kid. I think Millie Sayler also worked there, and another lady and possibly another man that did repairs. We lived next door and I used to ride along with Buzz or Dick when they did deliveries. I was probably about 12 before my mom let me ride along, that would have been in 1966. I also remember when they installed the new boiler in the plant, an addition was built on the left side to house the new boiler.  John A. Kinnaird
