Esta Main Street runs bottom to top in the view. At the left you can see the old two story brick Thurmont School. Just three buildings toward the bottom of the view is a large three story brick building with a dark mansard style roof line and a large porch facing East Main Street. At the time this photo was taken the building was home to the Maple Tree Inn, a hotel and apartment house. Riffles Garage would be built behind the Maple Tree Inn. In it's earlier life the Maple Tree Inn building was much smaller and was also a Thurmont School building.  This school was damaged in a storm in 1914 and then plans were laid to build the new Thurmont High School just down the street at the Summit Avenue intersection.
