Here's a peak inside the Dixie Diner on Water Street across from Frederick Road. The diner was made from an H&F trolley car and sat next to Leonard Fogle's Garage. That is Jimmy Steele drinking from the coffee cup and his wife Myrtle at the left, he ran the place for several years. As I understand it Mary Fogle opened the restaurant, then Jimmy Steele ran it followed by Bill Houck. On the right at the back are Raymond and Anna Mary Kaufman. I beleive that Anna Mary and Myrtle were sisters. The man at the right is Mervin Green. Jimmy Steele gave up the Dixie Diner when the Rte 15 bypass was opened and all the traffic dried up. He moved on to what was known as the Franklinville Tourist Camp just North of Thurmont along Rte. 15.
If anyone has any more info about the Dixie Diner please let us know!
