This Acme Newspictures photo shows Former President Herbert Hoover and Lawrence Ritchie after a day of trout fishing at the Ritchie estate near Catoctin Furnace. Ritchie served as Hoover's Secretary during his term as President. This property is now known as Trout Run and was part of the Catoctin Furnace property offer for sale by Launcelot Jackques. President Hoover purchased a large portion of the property which would later become Catoctin Mountain National Park before being ceded to the State of Maryland as the Cunningham Falls State Park. Lawrence Ritchie purchased and developed his parcel as a private get away and he hosted visits by several Presidents over the years. Camp David scenes for the television show West Wing were also shot here.
