Here's a view of Hagerstown & Frederick Car No 171 at the Apples Church Road crossing next to Moore Business Forms. This photo was taken in 1952, the year after Moore opened their Thurmont plant. This is obviously a rail fan trip since the motorman looks to be standing on the track at the left with other men and there's a kid with an adult at the controls. Rail fan trips were very popular in the final days of the H&F and allowed groups to rent and operate the cars between Frederick and Thurmont. As you can see the Moore building was considerably smaller at the time. Also just out of view on the right would have stood the Sunrise Cafeteria owned and operated by Beulah Zentz. The trolley line extended all the way to just past Apples Church Road and I have been told that WMRY crews as well as H&F RR crews would stop at the Sunrise Cafeteria for breakfast. This is one of the few photos that shows how the trolley poles were attached to the tops of these cars. you can seen the pole at the far end is engaged indicating that the car is moving West toward the viewer. It is interesting to see that the WMRY main line has three tracks running toward Graceham with a siding rail to Moore and the H&F siding making four sets of rails from this point to the station at Carroll Street.
