These trade cards are from H. Creager's Dry Goods, Grocer, and Notions store in Creagerstown. They are from the 1880's and are a nice example of early advertising. These would have been handed out to customers or prospective customers to remind them of where they could buy their everyday needs. Every small town had at least one Dry Goods, Grocer, and Notions store, I think Creagerstown had at least two. This was a time when people could not travel very far and small towns like Graceham, Mechanicstown, Creagerstown, Jimtown, Franklinville, and Troutville all had their own little stores. These cards were preprinted with the design and then hand stamped by store owners. These are now over 120 years old and have held up well. You can see on the back of one where the ink has transferred from another card. Does anyone have any information on H. Creager or his store?
