This is one of the Hagerstown & Frederick Railway Commemorative Last Trolley tickets issued for the final round trip to Thurmont on Feb. 20, 1954.

The Frederick-Thurmont route was converted into a bus line for passengers and a regular railroad freight cars contunied to haul freight on the line for a while. Once the closing of passenger service was announced, business on the trolley picked up so much that a Sunday run was added for the first time in years.

On the last Sunday, a charter trip was reserved by the Washington Railway Historical Society. On the final Saturday, so many passengers showed up that a double header was required for one round trip.
Thanks to Linsa Angell Lewis for sharing this with us.
