This handwritten letter by Col. John R. Rouzer was in an envelope containing personal document of John B. Gilbert of Thurmont. John Rouzer was keeping the documents for John B. Gilbert's daughter Miss Martha Jane Gilbert (1854–1904). This may be a result of John Rouzer being the Registrar of Wills for Frederick County and Miss Gilbert may have trusted him to safeguard them. John B.Gilbert was the owner of the Gilbert House on the Square in Mechanicstown. Several of the documents notes in the letter are still in the envelope. I will be posting additional document for this collection.

This letter describes the documents John Rouzer was keeping for Miss Martha Gilbert. This letter in in John Rouzer's hand and contains a few strikethrough’s, most likely indicating that those papers were returned to the family.

This is part of the Bill Zentz Collection and I want to thank Candy Zentz for sharing this document with us.
