The Monocacy Valley Rail Road was constructed between Thurmont and Catoctin Furnace to carry supplies and finished products for the Furnace. The MVRR was the granddaddy of the Washington Frederick and Gettysburg RR and later the Hagerstown & Frederick RR in the Catoctin Furnace and Thurmont area.
