This photo was taken on August 21, 1947 and shows several "crippled children" at the Presidential Lodge at Shangri-La. The note with the image says that this is the terrace that President and Mrs. Truman like to sit and eat hot dogs and hamburgers they cook for the President and his cronies. The boys at the right are looking at a built in barbecue grill. President Roosevelt regularly had children with polio visit Shangri-La from Camp Greentop. Greentop was the first facility built on federal property for the care of handicapped children. As a victim of polio himself, President Roosevelt cared deeply for these children.
