This view shows a Monocacy Valley Railroad engine and passenger cars on the siding next to the Western Maryland track at Thurmont. The Monocacy Valley RR was the earliest of the rail roads to run between Catoctin Furnace and Thurmont. The line was originally built from Catoctin Furnace to the WMRR station to carry goods for the Furnace. It would eventually become part of the Hagerstown and Frederick Railroad.
