This is beautiful little image is based on a well-known postcard view of East Main Street in Thurmont. The original postcard is one of J. H. Cassell's many images, this one was slightly enlarged then hand-tinted by Linda Sandagger and reproduced for the Thurmont Historical Society in 1997. The image is printed on heavy paper and was framed. The hand-tinting really brings life to the scene, Linda Sandagger is a wonderful local artist and worked on many projects for the THS. I remember when these were available and somewhere there is one I purchased at one of the THS banquets as a fundraiser. This particular copy was owned by a local family and will remain in local hands.

This postcard was sent to Miss Elizabeth Curfman of York, PA from the Eyler Market advertising their December 22, 1939 Horse and Cow Sale. It was sent on Dec. 19th and features a personal message written on the margins. The card advertises the next sale will have 50 horses, mules and colts along with 40 cows and young cattle. This is the address side of the postcard sent to Miss Elizabeth Curfman of York, PA from the Eyler Market advertising their Dec. 22, 1939 Horse and Cow Sale. The card was canceled inThurmont at 10:30 am on December 19, 1939. The cancelation stamp is unusually crisp and clear, many can be very difficult to read. A very rare business card from the Thurmont Lunch Room run by Mrs. Orpha Ruth Eyler. I believe that the Thurmont Lunch Room was located on Water Street just down the street from the square. The Thurmont Lions Club held their early meetings at Mrs. Eyler's Lunch Room before moving to Camp Cozy.  This card is displayed courteousy of Sue Eyler Clabaugh.

This is the back of the business card from the Thurmont Lunch Room run by Mrs. Orpha Ruth Eyler. As with many cards and advertisements of the period, the back of the card served as a blotter pad. This photo taken in February 1964 shows four men seated in the front of Hugh Eby's shoe repair shop on Water Street. The sign on the door reads Eby's Electric Shoe Repair. The Cozy Restaurant had a display of store fronts and Hugh Eby's was one of the businesses featured, the door sign was the same as the one seen here.
